Two versions of William Gibbs McAdoo's diary documenting his life from 1846 to 1894. McAdoo wrote this diary and series of letters during the Mexican War, Civil War, and through his later years until 1894. Volume 1 is the draft version of the compilation of these extracts and Volume 2 is the final version.

This collection is a diary written by William A. Mayo of Monroe County, Tennessee between the years 1861 and 1866. The majority of the diary Mayo recounts daily life during his years as a captured captain in the Confederate Army as well as a list of fellow prisoners. Mayo was kept in a Union prison on Johnson's Island in Lake Erie. This item is a typescript.

Written on August 14, 1862, Andrew J. Herndon writes a letter to his mother and sister from "camp near Tazwell [sic]" about life in the Army camp in Tennessee. He writes about his regiment having to march and asks how his family is doing. He also tells both his mother and sister to direct their letters to Knoxville, Tennessee.

This collection consists of a typed copy of Thomas Doak Edington's diary which he kept while serving as a Captain in Company A of the 6th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (USA) during the Civil War. In it, he discuses his unit's movements, camp life, his health, battles, the weather, foraging for food and supplies, drills, pickets, and administrative tasks. This transcript also includes a forward by John F. Edington and a list of the members of Company A still living as of November 15, 1917.

Abstract In this journal, Elizabeth (Baker) Crozier describes life in Knoxville during the siege of 1863. She recounts Union troops plundering and burning her home as well as destroying the homes of her friends and neighbors. She also recalls the kindness of others as she and her husband attempted to reestablish a home and life for their family. This collection consists of one handwritten letter, written in 1864 in Knoxville, Tennessee, by T. K. Gay of the Signal Corps to his brother Cal in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. It reports that Knoxville is currently tranquil but expresses concern that John Morgan is preparing to attack. Gay hypothesizes that if Morgan were to attack he would meet strong resistance, as more troops were expected for the defense of the city. Gay also opines that the war will end soon.
